Grommets
Durably and safely seal wiring and cables and prevent them from being damaged by sharp edges with the RS wide range of grommets.
Our thick grommet edgings are available in several shapes and sizes, in a variety of materials including rubber, PVC, nylon, and UV-resistant UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene). Whatever the material you wish to shield, our tough electrical grommets can help.
Take a look through our range of round, stripped, stepped, and slotted grommet edgings below from trusted manufacturers including Essentra Components, Murrplastik, and Panduit. The dependable and cost-conscious RS PRO electrical grommet range is also available.

What are grommets? What are they used for?
Grommets are components used to protect cables, wires, and hoses from abrasion.
Commonly used in fuse-board and back-box knockouts, electrical grommets provide a soft, rounded surface for the wire or other item to pass through, rest on, and rub against. This reduces the risk of hard, sharp edges damaging the wire sheath or severing the wire itself.
Grommet edgings are most commonly installed by hand by electricians, with rubber chassis grommets providing a non-conductive surface for wiring to sit within. However, given their flexible designs, they are a widespread component across many other trades and industries too, keeping cabling safe and protected, and improving maintenance lifespans in kind.
What types of grommets are there?
There are plenty of types of grommets from which to choose, suiting a wide range of tasks. Here are some of the most common:
- Circular grommet edgings: The most ubiquitous type of grommet, circular edgings have a notch running around their exterior, into which the sharp or hard edge of the circular wiring outlet is slotted. Toroidal in shape, the central hole allows cables, wires, and hoses to run through.
- Continuous grommets: Electrical grommets are also available as strips to cover long, straight edges. Known as continuous or caterpillar grommets, they comprise a long slot which is placed over the edge of the metal surface being covered.
- Stepped grommets: Designed to be adaptable, stepped grommets feature a pyramid-like design that allows the user to cut the grommet to a range of diameters, allowing them to choose a size that fits the cable running through the grommet. Once cut to the correct size, the cable is threaded through, creating a good seal and great finish.
- Blank grommets: Blank circular grommets with no central hole are also available for protect infrastructure like electrical boxes against dust and moisture ingress.
Why choose RS for your grommets?
Designed with the needs of installers, trades, and infrastructure owners in mind, RS grommet edgings can be relied on to protect cabling and the components they run through.
Hard-wearing and made from long-lasting materials, our thick grommets can be installed and forgotten about, then relied upon to do the job. Whatever type you require, they're also easily installed, making the jobsite more efficient.
We offer individual electrical grommets and sets of grommet edgings, in inner diameters from 0.125" (3.18mm) to 1.22' (31.0 mm) and outer diameters from 0.063" (1.6mm) to 2.125" (53.98mm). We have hundreds of products in stock, so are sure to have the grommet that you need.
