Overview

The HARTING MICA (Modular Industrial Computing Architecture) is a modular platform made from open hardware and software components. Unlike single-board computers, such as the Raspberry Pi, this circuit board is divided into three parts. One of these parts can be customized. The form factor and degree of protection remain unchanged after hardware adjustments.

The HARTING MICA allows easy connection to a wide range of "Things" in the Industrial Internet of Things: machine tools, manufacturing processes, RFID readers, sensors, smart infrastructure, and much more. Its modular hardware and Linux-based open source containerized software allow for rapid development and shorter deployment times. Applications are numerous and include machine health monitoring, condition-based maintenance, process monitoring, asset tracking, smart buildings and infrastructure, smart cities and transportation, etc.

MICA is unshakeable. The system is designed for harsh industrial and railway environments, has no fan, and is maintenance-free. It can be used in metallic environments and is resistant to dust, moisture, and temperature fluctuations (IP67). Remote servicing for the MICA can be performed with a web browser. Software applications run in virtual, Linux-based containers (virtual machines) which contain all the necessary libraries and drivers for the respective application, so there are no more problems with package dependencies and incompatibilities. MICA's open source approach permits the user to choose the programming language and development environment.
