BEI Sensors manufactures a wide range of encoder products. Incremental encoders are one of the most simple and commonly used encoders in the industry, instantaneously providing information on the position of a rotating shaft by producing one square wave cycle per increment of shaft movement. This increment is referred to as the resolution of the encoder, and is built directly into the internal hardware of the device on the code disc. By rotating this code disc in the path of a light source, it acts like a shutter and alternately shuts off or transmits the light to a photodetector. By counting this number of cycles, you can tell the position of the shaft, relative to its starting position. While this is all very essential in generating position feedback, the encoder is only a portion of the battle. The cables and connections used are also critical. BEI Sensors' cable assemblies use high quality data cable and industrial connectors, providing excellent noise immunity for sensor data.
