What are vacuum generators?

Vacuum generators create a level of vacuum that’s required for object handling tasks. These devices build up a vacuum quickly and have short cycle times. Thanks to their straightforward and condensed design features, they can be integrated directly into a system.

Vacuum generators are typically used in conjunction with accessories such as vacuum suction cups. These are connected to the generator’s outlet and are what is attached to the object that’s being handled.

How do vacuum generators work?

Simply put, vacuum generators use compressed air to generate a vacuum through what’s known as the Venturi effect. When activated, the compressed air supply travels through a micro solenoid valve. When the maximum level is reached, the vacuum switch acts on the micro solenoid valve electric coil and interrupts the power supply. The vacuum switch restores the power supply when the vacuum degree falls below the set minimum value. This allows you to establish the safety values in your application.

How do vacuum ejectors work?

A vacuum ejector works by accelerating a high-pressure stream through a nozzle, converting the pressure energy into velocity. A low-pressure region is created around the nozzle tip, which is often called the suction chamber of the vacuum ejector. When the pressure in this region is lower than the pressure of the suction fluid connector, it will be sucked into the body of the ejector. The two streams will then travel through the diffuser section of the ejector, where velocity decreases and pressure is regained.

Where are vacuum generators used?

There are a number of different applications where you might come across or need to fit vacuum generators. For example, they’re mainly used in pick and pack robots in virtually all industries. Other uses include feeder applications in the automotive industry and end-of-line applications such as food packaging.
