Sensors, Switches & Relays
In today's world you need to know what is going on and be able to do something about it. Sensors are the "know what is going on" part, they detect conditions such as proximity or presence and provide a binary, analog or other output related to the conditions. Switches and relays are the "do something about it" part. They contain electrical contacts that are near each other (open circuit) or touching each other (closed circuit) and that can change from one state to the other. Switches, like pushbutton and toggles, have manually operated contacts, and relays use an electromagnet to move the contacts. Solid state switches and relays use electronic circuitry to provide similar functions.
