Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are the centerpiece of automated process systems. These systems begin with sensors that send information to the PLC about system conditions. Using that information, the PLC is programmed to provide responses based on inputs from the sensors. These responses are output to devices that can affect the process, like pumps, heaters, actuators, etc. Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) enhance the control of a system by providing a display interface that visually represents the process being controlled and key or touchscreen review of inputs and outputs, as well as the ability to directly control aspects of the process. Combination PLC & HMI units that combine both functions into a single product are now available.
