For years, the scientific and industrial digital video market has lacked a standard method of communication. Both frame grabbers and camera manufacturers developed products with different connectors, resulting in confused consumers. A connectivity standard between digital cameras and frame grabbers is necessary as long as data rates continue to increase.
Increasingly diverse cameras and advanced signal and data transmissions have made a connectivity standard like CameraLink™ a necessity. The CameraLink™ interface standard was created by a consortium of leading manufacturers of cameras and framegrabbers. The CameraLink™ standard allows very high speed data transfer, and simplifies interconnect cabling by providing a defined set of standards and products. This results in reduced support time and lower support costs.
The CameraLink™ interface uses a cable assembly originally designed and manufactured by 3M. This twin-axial shielded cable has been specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of reliable high-speed differential signalling applications. The CameraLink™ cable is designed with MDR-26 pin connectors on both ends. The entire cable bundle is shileded with foil and braid for additional signal protection.
