Instantly Productive. Incredibly Easy.
The TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series digital storage oscilloscopes deliver an unbeatable combination of performance and ease-of-use, at a price you can afford.
Affordable Digital Precision
With up to 200 MHz bandwidth and 2 GS/s maximum sample rate, no other color digital storage oscilloscope offers as much bandwidth and sample rate for the price. The TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series oscilloscopes provide accurate real-time acquisition up to their full bandwidth, the same record length at all time base settings, advanced triggers to isolate signals of interest, and 11 standard automatic measurements on all models. Their Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and waveform add, subtract, and multiply math functions allow you to analyze, characterize, and troubleshoot circuits.
Quick and Easy Waveform Capture
The simple user interface with classic analog-style controls makes these instruments easy to use, reducing learning time and increasing efficiency. Innovative features such as the Autoset Menu, Probe Check Wizard, Context-Sensitive Help Menu and color LCD display (TDS2000B Series) optimize instrument setup and operation.
Flexible Data Transfer
With USB host and device ports which enable removable data storage, seamless PC connectivity, and direct printing, no other color or monochrome digital storage oscilloscope offers as much flexibility and ease of data transfer for the price.
Simple Documentation and Analysis
Easily capture, save and analyze measurement results with OpenChoice PC Communications Software. Simply pull screen images and waveform data into the stand-alone desktop application or directly into Microsoft Word and Excel. To complement OpenChoice, National Instruments SignalExpress Tektronix Edition Software provides you with extended capabilities, including advanced analysis, remote oscilloscope control and live waveform analysis. Alternatively, if you prefer not to use the PC, you can simply print your image directly to any PictBridge compatible printer via the USB device port.
Performance You Can Count On
Depend on Tektronix to provide you with performance you can count on. In addition to industry leading service and support, every TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series oscilloscope comes backed with a Lifetime Warranty*1 as standard.

Buggy software---save your money

Reviewed By: Emilio on 2/27/2008 1:09:19 PM
Tech Level: Above-average knowledge - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week |
| Pros: The unit is obviously very small and light-weight.
Comes with more than enough color-coded probe-cable clips so you can put one on each end so you know which cable is which.
The user interface is pretty intuitive. From using other Tektronix scopes, I don't have to look at the knobs to use them, and most of the time I find what I need quickly. A multipurpose knob has an LED that lights up to indicate when you have to use it.
Really, the biggest pro is the size---it's the only reason to get this over an Agilent. (I have not used an Agilent but have used a relatively modern HP.) |
| Cons: It should have come with a hard shell to cover the screen and knobs. Without a proper case, its portability is hindered by all the cables you have to carry.
The "legs" to prop it up are at the very edge, and are too far apart to be used if the scope is atop most instrument enclosures.
I downloaded "OpenChoice" v1.5 from their website. They spent a lot of time on a pretty user interface that is not functional---for example, the comment string added to downloaded screen images cannot be modified mid-string! If you click in the middle of the edit box, it just selects the whole thing, and if you use the arrow keys, it moves the focus from the text box to the buttons (normally you would do that with the TAB key). So you have to backspace to the point at which you want to edit the comment.
Also, transferring data (either screen capture or actual sample points) via USB is takes several seconds. Honestly, it's not much better than taking a picture with a digital camera. |
| Other thoughts: An instrument this expensive should come with a protective shell. It's like buying a camera lens that doesn't have a lens cap. The shell could be used to store the cables during transport, too.
The unit does not come with a USB cable.
The unit takes more than 10 seconds to boot up. The display is quite disappointing; it looks blotchy and responds very slowly.
The USB connectivity is a joke because of the shoddy software. If I understand correctly, the newer "non B" oscilloscopes have a serial interface built-in. Do yourself a favor and get a TekSelect "non B" oscilloscope. A the time that I bought this, there were several new TDS2014's for $1300, with a free rackmount kit. Many of the scopes on TekSelect are from foreign countries, but if you provide your own power cord and download the manual in your language you'll be set.
The software seems to be untested---when you save measurement data, there is a bug where it asks you for the filename twice (and saves the data twice). |
