RoHS and WEEE Directives are part of a series of EU environmental measures. They are very closely linked and will be implemented within a similar timeframe. Both Directives apply only in the European Union. However, RoHS directly affects manufacturers who sell product into the EU and eventually other countries as they follow suit with their own “green” legislation.

Preparing for China RoHS

China recently signed three final draft standards of its pending RoHS law. Some requirements match the EU's RoHS directive, while others are significantly different.

Additional RoHS Exemptions

The EU announced additional exemptions to RoHS in some applications of lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
